Overview

Multi-Sensory Impairment Training - Level 2 - Online Course - CPD Accredited.

Welcome to our online Multi-Sensory Impairment training course for front-line healthcare and social care providers. All our online training courses, programmes and qualifications are accredited by the CPD Certification Service (CPDUK).

Sensory impairment is when one of the senses; sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste and spatial awareness, is no longer normal. If one wears glasses, they have a sight impairment, and if one finds it hard to hear or have a hearing aid, then they have a hearing impairment.

A person does not have to have a full loss of a sense to be sensory impaired. However, these impairments may affect many aspects of their lives. Our multi-sensory impairment training courses were designed to give learners a broader awareness of these problems so that they are better able to support them.

What is sensory impairment?

Sensory impairment is when one of your senses, e.g., sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste and spatial awareness, is no longer normal. For example, if you wear glasses, then you have a sight impairment, or if you find it hard to hear or have a hearing aid, then you have a hearing impairment.

Multi-sensory impairment in children

Children who have a multi-sensory impairment (MSI) have both a vision and hearing loss. Their sensory loss may be present at birth or acquired later.

Some of these children also have medical, physical and cognitive disabilities. Multi-sensory impairment impacts on all areas of learning and children may need additional support to learn to communicate and develop socially.

Through working closely with the child or young person and family, the service can provide families and schools with information and strategies for development for example on functional use of vision and or hearing, development of communication, mobility, physical skills and environmental adaptations.

What is a sensory disability?

A sensory disability refers to an impairment of the senses (e.g. sight, hearing).

As 95% of the information about the world around us comes from our sight and hearing, a sensory disability can affect how a person gathers information from the world around them.

What is vision impairment?

Vision impairment (also referred to as visual impairment) is any diagnosed condition of the eye or optical system that cannot be corrected to within normal limits.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
